Grandpa and Grandma!
No way will we forget these precious people in the family. And I guess picture book writers are a grandparent-loving bunch, for there was a book on grandparents on almost every shelf at the library!
Here are five I’ve picked out. Most are Grandma-related. Our sweet, sometimes strange Grandma. Next week, I’ll dig out more Grandpa-books.
· Grandma and Grandpa Visit Connor Nadège Cochard & Fanny
Connor’s parents are going on a vacation but he isn’t invited. So he sulks until Grandma and Grandpa walk in. With their belongings behind them … (Age 3 & up)
· Silas’ Seven Grandparents Anita Horrocks & Helen Flook
Silas has seven doting grandparents who want him to stay with each of them when his parents go on a business trip. What should Silas do? He doesn’t want to break any of their hearts! (Age 5 & up)
· Grandparents’ Day Nikki Tate & Benoìt Laverdière
It’s bring-your-grandparent-to-school for Show and Tell! Omi is one weird grandmother who wears green rubber boots held together with duct tape. What strange thing will she bring to show the class? (Age 5 & up)
· Hey Presto! Rachel Hayward & Rachael Haupt
Daniel’s grandmother is a retired magician, yet Magic seems to follow them everywhere! Daniel gets into trouble in school because of it, especially since his teacher doesn’t believe in Magic. (Age 5 & up)
· *Grandma’s Gone to Live In The Stars Max Haynes
About a grandmother, who has passed on, biding a loving goodbye to her children, grandchildren, pets and more. Sombre yet moving. (*I know this isn’t the usual type of books we pick out for young children but some of them kids who’ve suffered a loss in the family must be wondering where Grandpa or Grandma have gone to. This book is a comfort. And thinking that our precious Grandparents are living amongst the stars sounds good mmmh?) (Age 5 & up for the theme, though the reading level is much lower.)
Have a good weekend with these Precious People!

Really enjoyed the honest voice of this narrator ~ a teenager let down by his mother and the foster care system, and almost-picked up through his involvement with a gang.
