Friends are like the sea breeze, blueberries, chocolate cream, wild flowers in a forest, and a life-saving umbrella on a rainy day. They are the sunshine of our lives.
But sometimes, some friends (for some particular streak of time) are … exhaust fumes, a sour stench in the air, the invisible fists plunging down our shoulders. They can, on certain nights, be the shadows in our fitful sleep.
We need friends, but we need them good, not toxic.
We can have the most beautiful friendships, but only when we open our hearts wide enough.
This week, I’ve sourced out several excellent reads for pre-schoolers on the topic of friendship.
Sweet, tricky friendship.
My favourites are the one between the Italian craftsman and his pigeon friend, and the one between a caterpillar and a gosling.
